Valencia sign Helder Postiga from Real Zaragoza on a two-year deal
Valencia have paid Zaragoza a reported 3million euros for the Portuguese forward, who scored 14 goals in 34 games last season, although that was not enough to prevent Los Blanquillos from being relegated.
If Postiga nets 15 goals for the Mestalla outfit, Zaragoza will earn a further 375,000 euros from the deal, as well as retaining 20 per cent of any transfer fee the player commands in the future.
The striker has been signed to fill the gap in the Valencia attack left by the departure of Roberto Soldado - Los Che's top scorer last season with 25 goals - who has now joined Tottenham for £26 million.
However, Postiga told reporters at his presentation: "I'm not here to replace anyone.
"Roberto was an important player for this team, just like many other players were, and I've come here to help the team and contribute as much as I can," he is quoted as saying by rtve.com.
Postiga began his career at Porto before joining Tottenham in 2003, but after an unhappy season at White Hart Lane in which he scored only once, he returned to his former club.
Loan spells at St Etienne and Panathinaikos followed before he returned to his homeland to sign for Sporting Lisbon but, after two seasons in the Portuguese capital, he switched to Zaragoza.
