Rooney thanks Roy Hodgson for faith in picking him in England squad
Rooney is yet to make a competitive appearance in Manchester United's pre-season campaign because of hamstring and shoulder injuries.
The striker has been the subject of plenty of transfer speculation as well, with Chelsea consistently linked with a move for him despite United's insistence that he is not for sale.
Rooney could return to action in Sunday's Community Shield against Wigan at Wembley, and another date at the national stadium in midweek has him excited as well.
He took to his official Facebook page, saying: "Can't wait to join up with the England squad and hopefully play in a competitive match - they always are against Scotland.
"Big thanks to Roy Hodgson for selecting me and showing his faith and support - appreciate it."
