Croatia U20 Lose Star in FIFA U20 World Cup
Inter have told Mateo Kovacic he cannot go to the Under-20 World Cup with Croatia this summer. “Pre-season training is too important.”
The 18-year-old midfielder already has two caps at senior international level, but would’ve been the star figure in Croatia’s Under-20 World Cup campaign.
The Nerazzurri today rejected the request to have Kovacic on international duty during the summer.
Director Marco Branca wrote a letter pointing out “the lad needs time to settle into the team, so it is fundamental he completes pre-season training with the rest of the squad.
“This summer period will be important for his professional growth, so it is therefore important for us and also for you.”
Kovacic arrived during the January transfer window from Dynamo Zagreb for around €12m.
