Shaikh Salman elected to FIFA Executive Committee
Newly-elected AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa has been elected to FIFA’s Executive Committee following Thursday’s election at the AFC Extraordinary Congress.
Shaikh Salman, who picked-up an overwhelming 33 of the 46 available votes in the election for the AFC President, received 28 votes, ten more than Hassan Al Thawadi, the only other candidate up for the available seat on FIFA’s decision-making body.
Shaikh Salman joins HRH Prince Ali bin Al Hussein and Thailand’s Dato’ Worawi Makudi as three of the AFC’s representatives on FIFA’s Executive Committee with Vernon Manilal Fernando from Sri Lanka recently banned for eight years from all football activity by FIFA.
