Roy Hodgson tells Wilfried Zaha & Raheem Sterling to prove themselves
As expected, Zaha was included in Hodgson's 25-man party for England's friendly against Scotland next week.
The forward has so far played just six minutes of international football having made his debut as a substitute in England's friendly defeat in Sweden last year.
He has since gone on to secure a move to Manchester United, where he has excelled in pre-season.
A long line of current England squad members like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kyle Walker and Jack Wilshere have made the step up to the senior squad from the Under-21s in recent years and Hodgson hopes Zaha and Liverpool teenager Raheem Sterling can do the same.
"Of course he (Zaha) is still under 21, as is Raheem Sterling, but I think there's two very exciting talents there," said Hodgson.
"I wouldn't be at all surprised if they make a mark on the senior team in the same way that Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck and Phil Jones have done before them.
"I really put them in the same category as these types of players.
"They have the ability but they have to prove it.
"Wilfried has done very well for Manchester United in their pre-season games and did fine for us when he was with me for Sweden.
"He's a player we will have to monitor over the coming weeks to see if he can build on what has, potentially, been a very good start."
